Oklahoma State Parks and Tenkiller
State Park presented awards to the Tenkiller Park Partners citizen
organization at their recent monthly meeting and holiday dinner
in appreciation of their support of Tenkiller State Park events
and projects in 2002. The group is comprised of local community
leaders interested in the promotion and improvement of the park
facilities and programs. During the past year the young organization
has helped secure grant funding for developing a multi-use diabled
accessible interpretive scenic trail, assisted with the construction
of a kids fishing pond and built a wildlife observation blind
with feeders along the route of the new trail in the park. The
park friends also staffed a litter cleanup day, kids fishing
clinic, the annual Easter Extravaganza, autumn arts and crafts
festival and the Halloween Haunting events. Their efforts have
contributed greatly to the increasing visitation and facility
improvements in Tenkiller State Park. The State Parks Division
truly appreciates the assistance of these wonderful park partners!
Tenkiller Park staff also recognized
representatives of the nearby Methodist Youth Ranch with a plaque
for their assistance with many service projects in the park at
the nature center and making wildlife habitat improvements in
the park. At an earlier meeting, the park had recognized the
cadets of the Thunderbird Youth Academy from Pryor for their
many Saturdays of volunteer service in trail maintenance, debris
removal and brush control around the cabins. These young people
have made a direct positive impact on the beauty of the park
for visitors and wildlife. Enjoy their efforts on your next visit
to Tenkiller!
